The Troup County 9-10 all-stars won’t mess with perfection.
Troup, which has been dominant this summer in the Dixie Youth Baseball district and state tournaments, hasn’t changed its practice routine in preparation for the World Series in Laurel, Miss., which begins this weekend.
Head coach Jay Anderson even gave his players a few days of rest and relaxation last week before diving back into practices.
“It’s the same old, same old,” Anderson said. “It’s worked pretty well for us so far.”
The team will wrap up preparations Thursday before hitting the road on Friday.
Troup has compiled a perfect record this summer, and most of the games have been lop-sided.
That will likely change on Saturday, however, when the team kicks off the World Series.
With the exception of the host team, which has an automatic invitation, all of the teams are state champions.
“The guys are getting real excited,” Anderson said. “This is what they’ve worked all summer for.”
Of course, an added perk is in it for the players, who would be starting school on Friday.
“They get to stay in a hotel and miss the first day of school,” Anderson said. “The more they win, the more school they get out of. That’s some incentive for them.”
