Mrs. Ida C. Hudson, age 74, of LaGrange, died Tuesday, August 4, 2009, at the West Georgia Medical Center.

Mrs. Hudson was born April 18, 1935 in LaGrange the daughter of Fuller E. Callaway, Jr. and Alice Hand Callaway. Mrs. Hudson graduated from Mt. Vernon Seminary in Washington, D.C. and attended Stephens College in Columbia, MO. She married Charles D. Hudson on May 1, 1955.

Mrs. Hudson was a member of the First Baptist Church on the Square where she was a former Sunday school teacher with the youth department. She was a 1976 recipient of the Georgia Association for Children with learning Disabilities Distinguished Service Award and was the first person outside of Atlanta to receive the honor. Mrs. Hudson initiated the writing of a proposal from the school system to provide learning disability resource rooms and was influential in bringing about the writing of a special handbook on learning disabled children for teachers and the creation of 10 TV films which demonstrated techniques for a teacher to employ in learning disability programs. She was the Chairman of Charitable Services, Inc. and was a former member of the Fuller E. Callaway Foundation and Callaway Foundation, Inc.

Mrs. Hudson is survived by her husband, Charles D. Hudson of LaGrange; three daughters, Jane Alice Craig and Ida Russell, both of LaGrange, and Ellen Harris of Franklin; a son, Charles D. Hudson, Jr. of LaGrange; 11 grandchildren: David Cauble, Charlie Cauble, Meredith Craig, Sam Craig, Robert Harris, Chase Hudson, Mary Ellen Hudson, Thomas Hudson, Florence Hudson, Henry Hughes, and Fred Hughes; and 2 great-grandchildren, Zimri Cauble and Cason Cauble.

A private graveside funeral service will be held Thursday at the Callaway Family Cemetery in LaGrange. Dr. Paul Baxter and David Zimri Cauble, IV will officiate.

The family will have a visitation Wednesday from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at the Hills and Dales Visitors Center.

Flowers are appreciated, but those so desiring may contribute to a favorite charity in memory of Mrs. Hudson.
