Car owner fires at would-be thief

West Point police are seeking residents’ help in an attempted car theft in the 1200 block of 2nd Avenue in which the owner fired a weapon at the thief about 9:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Anyone with information on the incident were asked to call the West Point police at (706) 645-3525.

Wrecks

— A motorist was charged with following too closely and driving under the influence after her vehicle struck a car in the 1600 block of Whitesville Street.

LaGrange police said a Ford Explorer driven by Willie Harris, 52, of Juniper Street struck the back of Phyllis Hall’s Nissan Maxima about 9 p.m. Thursday.

No one was injured in the accident.

When questioned about the wreck, officers said Harris slurred her words and couldn’t complete three sobriety tests given.

Harris was charged and taken to Troup County Jail.

— Two people were treated at West Georgia Medical Center after a two-car wreck on Forrest Avenue near Troup Street.

Officers said Marcus Freeman, 33, of LaGrange was backing up his tractor-trailer to verify an address 1 p.m. Thursday when he struck the front of an Oldsmobile Alero driven by Kasey Phillips, 25, of New Franklin Road.

Phillips and her passenger, Destiny Storey, 26, also of New Franklin Road, were evaluated at the hospital after complaining of neck and back pain. Their conditions were unavailable this morning.

Freeman was cited with improper backing.

Thefts, burglaries

— Two computers, a Dell laptop and Hewlett Packard desktop, were stolen from a residence in the 100 block of Wexford Drive.

— A handheld Motorola radio valued at $230 was taken from a Friendly Cab Company taxi.

Damage

— A vandal cracked the windshield of a van in Whispering Pines Apartments at 1515 Hogansville Road, causing about $300 damage.

— A mailbox in the 200 block of Park Hill Drive was hit by a vehicle, causing $350 damage.

— The windshield of a Chevrolet Caprice in the 1000 block of Baldwin Street was smashed, causing about $500 damage.

— The back window of a Jeep Cherokee was shattered in the 100 block of Teaver Court.
