LAUREL, Miss - Don’t count out the 9-10 Troup County all-stars yet.

The team defeated Louisiana 11-6 Monday to advance to the fourth round of the Dixie Youth Baseball World Series.

The win sets up a showdown with the host Laurel-Jones County all-stars today.

Troup has bounced back with a pair of wins after dropping its tournament opener to Mississippi on Saturday.

The win over Louisiana was in question until a pair of Troup hitters came alive.

Trailing 6-3 in the fourth inning, Jake Farrar hit a grand slam to seize the lead for good.

Luke Elder then hit a two-run homer to put Troup ahead 10-6.

“That was huge,” said Troup head coach Jay Anderson. “(Louisiana) scored five on us in the third inning, and for us to come back in the next inning is huge. It all started with getting runners on base.”

Farrar, who has been a force at the plate for Troup the entire summer, was walked in his two other at-bats during the game.

When Louisiana gave him the pitch he wanted, he took advantage.

“Jake just did was he does best,” Anderson said.

Troup took an early 2-0 lead on a two-run single from Champ Willis in the first inning.

Louisiana scored on a solo home run in the bottom of the inning, and Troup added another run on a bases-loaded walk in the second.

Troup then allowed five runs in the third inning to lose the lead, but was able to quickly get back on top with the offensive rally, led by Farrar and Elder.

In the fifth inning, Ben Anderson scored on a bases-loaded wild pitch to conclude the scoring.

Dylan Johnson got the start on the mound and lasted three innings.

Matthew Anderson pitched the rest of the game and didn’t allow a run.

Today’s game is at 5:30 p.m. Central time.
