Republicans Sens. Mitch Seabaugh of Sharpsburg and Seth Harp of Midland won their races handily. Seabaugh defeated challenger Betty Aaron with 71 percent of the vote to her 28 percent, with 95 percent of precincts reporting this morning. In Troup County, Seabaugh took 4,272 votes to her 2,066.
“I want to thank each and every one of the voters who expressed confidence in me again this year,” Seabaugh said. “I’m tremendously humbled by this opportunity to serve.”
Harp, who was opposed by Evelyn Thompson Anderson, took 63 percent of the vote to her 36 percent with 95 percent of precincts reporting this morning. In Troup County, Harp took 10,054 votes to Anderson’s 7,833 votes.
Harp also thanked voters for returning him to office.
“I’m glad the voters saw that I’d accomplished a lot during my time in office and I’d like to go back and do some more,” he said.
Rep. Carl Von Epps, D-LaGrange, defeated challenger Gene King of Meriwether County to return to his District 128 seat.
According to the Georgia secretary of state’s office, 92 percent of precincts had reported this morning. Epps had 58 percent of the vote to King’s 42 percent. In Troup County, Epps had 5,147 votes to King’s 2,984.
“I’m humbled by the experience,” Epps said this morning. “I want to say thank you to the voters who took the time to go and perform their civic duties.”
State Reps. Randy Nix of LaGrange and Vance Smith of Pine Mountain both were unopposed in their re-election bids.
