Pedestrian stabbed, robbed

A McGhee Street resident was stabbed several times and robbed of his wallet about 11 p.m. Monday in the 100 block of Tower Street.

Police said the victim was walking near the city of LaGrange water tower when a group of men assaulted him with a bladed object, causing several small stab wounds. The assailants grabbed the men’s wallet which contained an unknown amount of money and fled.

The victim was treated at West Georgia Medical Center.

Scrubs-wearer checks mail

A Sunset Street woman told police that a stocky man wearing blue scrubs was walking down the street checking residents’ mail.

She said she saw the man going through the mail of her neighbors while she was walking her dog. Afterward, he left in a Mercury.

Police: Teen steals, wrecks grandmother’s car

A Mason Street man was arrested after allegedly taking his grandmother’s GMC Sierra and wrecking it inside the Laurel Ridge Apartments parking lot.

Police said Javertis Simmons, 17, took his grandmother’s keys from the 1000 block of Mason Street on Friday, sped around a curve in the complex and lost control of the vehicle, leaving the roadway and smashing through a fence and a utility box.

He was charged with theft by taking a motor vehicle, reckless driving and violation of a CP license.

Nine inmates hurt in wreck

Nine inmates went to the hospital after their prison van had an accident about 5:30 p.m. Monday on Green-ville Road at the city landfill.

The inmates from the county Correctional Institute all had what appeared to be minor injuries, said Troup fire Capt. Steve Preston.

Details of the one-vehicle accident were not immediately available.

Arrests

n Latasha Trammell, 23 of Walnut Street and Alesha Dawson, 18, of East Fifth Street, both in West Point, were charged with burglary, theft by taking and criminal trespass.

n John Cato, 40 of Monroe Street was charged with violating registration of sexually violent predators.

n Joseph Sutton, 36, of Glenda Drive was charged with 13 counts of financial identity fraud and a probation violation.

Pool liner cut

A vandal ripped the liner of a pool in the 600 block of Azalea Drive, causing about $2,800 damage.

Thefts, burglaries

— A 16-foot trailer filled with tools, with a total value of $10,000, was taken from a construction site at 101 Calumet Center Court.

— A thief broke into the Southside Package Store at 1200 Hamilton Road and took 45 bottles of alcohol valued at about $2,800.

— A Xbox 360 Halo 3 Special Edition Console valued at $500 was taken from vehicle in the first block of North Cary Street.

— A pair of diamond earrings were taken from a gym locker in LaGrange High School at 516 N. Greenwood St.

— A $300 phone was snatched out of the hands of a 16-year-old in the La-Grange Memorial Library at 115 Alford St.

— A pink Blackberry cell phone valued at $250 was taken from a room in West Georgia Medical Center at 1514 Vernon Road.

— A man in the 4100 block of Bartley Road reported the theft of a 7-month-old brown and white boxer puppy.

— A thief stole a 1993 Chevrolet van, along with the radios from six other vehicles, at Double A Towing at 3468-D Hogansville Road.

— A weed trimmer valued at $154 was taken from a storage building in the 200 block of Mount Zion Church Road.
