Radio club to mark 20th anniversary with ‘hamfest’

The LaGrange Amateur Radio Club will celebrate 20 years as a club and host its first “hamfest” in October.

The event will include exhibits and demonstrations of ham radios along with seminars about ham radios and how build amateur ham radio-related items.

The West Point Police will demonstrate the command trailer that is used for search and rescue and disaster response. Other public service agencies and businesses will also show and demonstrate equipment.

The club will also operate a special event station during the day, operating on HF long-range radio and communicating with radio operators all over the world.

There will be an indoor flea market where participants can buy or sell ham radio items, computers and electronics of all kinds. Vendors have been invited from all over the Southeast. Tailgating and socializing was being encouraged.

There will be prize drawings throughout the morning as well as breakfast and lunch items available for purchase.

The club’s testing team will hold an exam session for all levels of amateur radio licenses during the hamfest. Photo identification card is required for exam sessions.
