Repairs are under way and could take up to two days, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation.
The sinkhole is located near mile marker 1.9 in Troup County. One right lane is open to traffic.
“At this time there are no plans for a total road closure. Updates will follow as conditions warrant,” a DOT statement released shortly before 5 p.m. said.
