Joseph Brennan “JoJo” Keeth, 29, pleaded guilty to charges of involuntary manslaughter and possession of cocaine. In exchange for the plea, assistant district attorney William Hocutt IV dismissed charges of reckless conduct, possession of Xanax and misdemeanor possession of marijuana.
Prosecutors said Keeth recklessly handled a loaded AK-47 while under the influence of drugs, causing Brown’s death on Feb. 19, 2008.
Keeth had just demonstrated the gun’s collapsible stock and bipod when it discharged, striking Brown in the head as he stood in a doorway at Keeth’s residence.
The demonstation took place while the gun was mounted on the wall with nails. One nail was under the shoulder stock, one under the barrel and one in the trigger guard.
“It got moved in just the wrong way” and went off, Hocutt said. “It was just a horrible tragedy.”
The victim’s mother, Tiffany Brown, said, “It was wrong how it happened, but I forgive him for it because I have the peace of God.”
