A man stole nearly $400 and a purse from a woman injured in a three-car accident at Lafayette Parkway and Hoffman Drive about 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.

LaGrange police said Jessica Meeks, 17, of Patillo Road was traveling in the right lane in a Toyota Camry, when she made a sharp change into the left lane, striking a Ford Taurus driven by Evon Alma, 53, of Greenville.

The two vehicles then crossed the median, striking a Chevrolet HHR driven by Patricia Harris, 58, of Lanett, Ala., sending the car into a swampy area off the road.

While Harris was trapped in her car, a white truck pulled up and a man asked if she needed help. She then passed him her Auburn University bag, asking him to give her ID to officers when they arrived. The man told her he would take care of everything, took the $10 bag containing about $380, then fled.

Meeks and Alma were taken to West Georgia Medical Center, where Meeks was treated and released. A condition report on Alma was unavailable this morning. Harris was flown to Columbus for possible internal injuries, but a condition report was unavailable.
