Since the LaGrange Academy Lady Warriors started playing fastpitch softball earlier this decade, they’ve won a region title every year.
Whether that streak will continue or not will be determined next week when the three teams tied atop the GISA Region 4-AA standings with one loss apiece face off in what will in essence be a round-robin tournament.
The Lady Warriors tuned up for that critical week with a 9-0 region victory over Heritage on Thursday, with Molly Child pitching a six-inning no-hitter.
Only a walk came between Child and a perfect game.
At the plate, the Lady Warriors banged out nine hits, and Kailin Parker had three RBIs.
LaGrange Academy hosts Flint River Academy on Tuesday before visiting Arlington on Thursday.
Flint River and Arlington will play on Friday.
If the Lady Warriors win both games, they’re region champs.
“We’ll practice (today) and get ready for Flint River,” said LaGrange Academy head coach Charles Parker, whose team lost to Flint River earlier this season.. “That’s going to be a big game for us.”
On Thursday, the Lady Warriors scored three runs in each of the first two innings to take a comfortable lead.
Parker took advantage of the situation to get a lot of players into the game.
“This was one of those games where everybody got to play,” Parker said. “You want to get everybody in the ballgame.”
Khadija Neely had two hits and two RBIs, while Abby Child, Marina Wilkerson and Emily Walker had two hits apiece.
Zylesha Woodyard and Holly Gooch each drove in a run.
