Driver grabbed a shotgun, then saw his portable air compressor at the edge of the woods and the bushes moving. Driver fired two shots into the air, but never saw anyone.
The store’s front door had been opened, but no entry was made because of a security bar, and a gas line to his outboard boat motor had been cut.
Car stolen, crashed
A thief stole a Honda Accord outside the PCA food store at 1200 Hogansville Road and crashed it into a nearby car wash before fleeing.
Police said another man was walking toward the store about 9:30 p.m. Friday when he heard the crash and saw the man get out of the vehicle and run. The bystander chased the suspect before losing sight of him on Sanford Avenue.
The vehicle suffered a moderate amount of damage to the front bumper and hood after it struck a steel cable stretched between two columns.
Woman accused of prostitution
A woman was charged with prostitution after getting in a car with an undercover officer and, while being interviewed, telling uniformed officers his name was “Jerry” and they liked to party.
Police said the woman was picked up on Bell Street near Hamilton Road and offered sexual services to the officer for $20, telling him to drive to an abandoned residence on West Crovat Street.
While she was being interviewed, she told the other officers that if she ever needed food or money. “Jerry” would give it to her, and they had known each other for about two weeks.
She was being held today at the Troup County Jail.
Repo crew faces baseball bat
Police said five employees of Aaron’s at 222 Commerce Ave. attempting to pick up items for nonpayment were threatened by a homeowner with a baseball bat about 12 p.m. Friday.
Police said the man came to the door of the residence on Georgia Avenue shouting at the group and threatening to beat them with the bat if they took the items. The man denied threatening them.
He was charged with disorderly conduct.
Sleepy intruder?
A man said someone entered a rental house he owns in the 500 block of Marchman Drive and made a bed with some old sheets and mattresses that had been left there.
Damage
— Several bricks were thrown at a vehicle parked in the 200 block of Pierce Street, causing about $2,000 damage.
— A vandal kicked in the front door of a residence in the 100 block of Bell Street, causing about $100 damage.
— A vandal shattered a window of a residence in the 100 block of West Bacon Street, causing about $100 damage.
Fake bill
A man attempted to pay for his medication with a $20 bill in the Kroger pharmacy at 203 Commerce Ave. When told the bill was counterfeit, he paid with a good one. Police contacted the man, who didn’t realize he had a counterfeit bill and had no idea where he received it.
Thefts, burglaries
— A washer, dryer, concrete mixer and air conditioning unit, with a total value of $5,700 were taken from a basement in the first block of Baldwin Street.
— About $3,000 was taken from the glove compartment of a vehicle in the LongHorn Steakhouse parking lot at 1518 Lafayette Parkway.
— A laptop, digital camera and purse, with a total value of $2,410, were taken from a vehicle in the Applebee’s parking lot at 1524 Lafayette Parkway.
— Various items, including a computer, electric razor and camcorder, with a total value of $950, were taken from a residence in the 200 block of Euclid Avenue.
— Tools and lawn equipment, including a grinder, weed trimmer and hand tools, with a total value of $850 were taken from a storage building in the 100 block of Fort Drive.
— An $800 Nissan Sentra was taken from a man shopping in Corley Drugs at 523 S. Greenwood St.
— A motorcycle valued at $600 was taken from the front porch of a residence in the 200 block of East Mulberry Street.
— A thief took a laptop valued at $500 from a residence in the 800 block of South Ogletree Street and caused $200 damage to the backdoor by kicking it in.
— About $400 was taken from a desk in an office of Emmaus Women’s Shelter at 321 Greenville St.
— A purse and its contents, with a total value of $320, were taken from a car trunk in the Ryan’s parking lot at 1509 Lafayette Parkway.
— A resident of the first block of Clearwater Drive reported the theft of video game equipment valued at $550.
— A burglar stole items valued at $3,400 from a residence in the 600 block of Hudson Road.
— Items valued at $100 were stolen from a car at Shaefer Heard Park off West Point Road.
— A thief pried open the back door of a storage shed at Welcome All Baptist Church at 1015 Glover Road and stole a weed trimmer and leaf blower with a combined valued of $400.
— A Newnan woman said her car broke down on South Gates Road and she had it towed to a relative’s on the same road, then to a shop in LaGrange to make repairs. At some point, the radio, amplifier, crossover and speaker box were stolen from the vehicle. They were valued at $975.
— A thief entered a car in the 100 block of Scenic Drive and stole the faceplate from a CD/radio player. It was valued at $140.
