The tournament was Sept. 19 at the Hogansville Golf Club, where an estimated 3 inches of rain fell between the shotgun start and the award ceremony.
Most people were good sports about the weather, said festival chairman Ralph Lynch.
“For the most part, people are here to support the charity and the festival,” he said. “They understand we have no control over the weather.”
Although a few golfers called it quits early, each team finished nine holes. Most participants stayed after the scramble - many in soaking-wet clothes - to enjoy lunch.
A wide variety of prizes donated by local merchants were awarded. Cody Tucker won $500 for being closet to the pin.
Trophies went to the two highest scoring teams. The first-place team, at 4 under par, included Kyle Mimbs, Patrick Strickland, Glenn Strickland and Chuck Strickland. The team called itself “3 Athletes & Kyle.”
Second place at 2 under was “Team Bonner” including Marty Bonner, Cody Tucker, Curt Tucker and Heath Teaster.
Third place at 1 under par was “Team Pike” of Jeremy, Jason, Jonathan and Brady Pike.
Longest drive prizes went to Emmett Askew in the men’s division and Marla Dannenbring in the women’s division.
Other than the weather, the tournament was a success, says Lynch. “We’ll definitely do it again next year,” he said.
