Dear Editor:

It is obvious that many Americans are awakening from their slumber and apathy as government forces are making their move toward total control with such legislation as the energy tax bill, the international criminal court, the convention on the rights of the child, the food safety bill, the clean water bill, the employee free choice act and the epitome of them all, the health care tax bill. All these unconstitutional proposals are in addition to the previous bailouts, take over of banks, stimulus spending, and nationalizing the car industry.

It’s hard to slumber when one has been awakened, from what a freedom loving American would call a nightmare of government officials assuming powers never delegated by the law, the U.S. Constitution.

Following the very well attended LaGrange Patriot’s Tea Party held on the square on Labor Day, there were a number of letters expressing criticisms about this Tea Party, in particular, and Tea Parties, in general, throughout the nation. There were many favorable letters expressing the fact the the Tea Party is a “catalyst” for elected officials to “take notice”.

As a member of the LaGrange Patriots I would like for those who did not attend the Labor Day Tea Party in LaGrange to know the mission of the organization as well as provide some much needed definitions to words used in some of the letters to the editor and lastly, to issue an invitation.

First: Our mission:

“Believing that we are one nation under God, the mission of the LaGrange Patriots is to organize, reach, and educate others based on our core principles. These principles include fiscal responsibility, limited government, states rights and free markets. Our goal is to affect the outcome of elections based on America’s founding documents, the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States .”

As you can see by our mission statement, we are for “free markets” where individuals or corporations invest their own money in business and government is limited to it’s legitimate functions under the law.

Second: Socialism, and fascism are economic systems which ultimately lead to totalitarianism or “total government” control. The legislation presently under consideration falls into these definitions. Our goal is freedom from “total government”.

Finally: For those of you who would like to know more about the “Tea Party Patriots” and are concerned about the direction of our country and want to get involved to defend your God-given rights, I’m inviting you to attend the LaGrange Patriot Forum at Hoofers Thursday evening Oct 8. Hamburger plates for $5 are served at 6 p.m. and the forum begins at 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. Dr. Tom Gore is our guest speaker and there will be time for you to ask questions and express your concerns. Come and bring a friend.

Dear anonymous,

Exactly what is the race card, please school me on the subject since you appear to have a lot of history on the matter. When are you going to realize as Martin Luther King quoted

"Like an unchecked cancer, hate corrodes the personality and eats away its vital unity. Hate destroys a man's sense of values

and his objectivity. It causes him to describe the beautiful as ugly and the ugly as beautiful, and to confuse the true with the false

and the false with the true.

I have a question for , did you allow your child to hear the school speach????

Finally, when people began objecting to Obama's speaking to schoolkids , it's hard to ignore the racism: Listening to some parents' expressing actual fear of having Obama beamed into their kids' classrooms, it was hard to imagine such hysteria being inspired by a white president. It would never happen."

And there goes the race card! When are you going to realize that this is not about race but about the difference in political views? I have not heard one person.... not even one of the people that you mentioned in your "rant" who have stood up and openly stated that they did not like the president because of his race. If you would listen to them you would understand that they give white democrats the same response. Again it has nothing to do with race.

I applaud the "tea partiers" for pulling off an impressive display of citizen action at the square.

I believe our government works for us. And for the most part, we citizens are too complacent when the government is moving in a direction we don't like.

But I cannot help wondering why this same kind of white conservative citizen action was completely absent while President Bush spent us into oblivion, lied about WMDs, led us into a fiscally devastating war of choice and spent his administration consolidating executive power.

So despite constant protestations that this movement has "nothing to do with race," I wonder why all of this outrage now?

Why all of this talk about "taking our country back"? Is it not mine, too? And exactly where do these tea party people want to take the country back to? Colonial times? Jim Crow era? The segregated 1950s? When exactly?

Obviously, you are one of the Rush Limbaugh, Glen Beck, Sean Hannity & Bill O'Reilly Fox News racists who are still ticked off about an African-American President & who can't think for himself but would rather follow these idiots who want nothing more than race bait. I am sure if you were laid off from your job & lose you and your family's healthcare, you would be crying to the "govmnt" to help you out. Well let us help the 47 million-plus Americans who don't have quality and affordable healthcare

You cannot become thorough Americans if you think of yourselves in groups. America does not consist of groups. A man who thinks of himself as belonging to a particular national group in America has not yet become an American.”
