Although I usually write on political matters, I sometimes want to share something of a personal nature. Yes, I want to join the LaGrange-Troup County Chamber of Commerce in encouraging people to do their shopping in Troup County. Why should we shop locally?

Well, I have been able to find what I need in Troup. I have not had to go to Columbus, Newnan, Auburn, or Atlanta. When we bought our home, we were helped by a local real estate expert. We also found the financing from a local bank.

When we bought our cars, we bought them from a Troup County dealership. I found the local dealer to be very professional and courteous. I also found that I got a great deal. Again, I didn’t have to go to Columbus, Newnan, or Auburn.

Recently I needed a new black suit- something every minister must have. Someone suggested that I buy that suit from Men’s Wearhouse in Columbus. I decided, however, to shop locally. I am thankful I did. Happily I was able to buy a beautiful black suit from a local department store.

Whenever we want to go to a great restaurant, there are many in Troup County. Believe me, I have found some of the best barbeque, steaks, and fried chicken not far from home. I never go to Atlanta for quality food.

Now that autumn is in the air, I am keeping up with football games. If I need a new television set to watch those games, I will definitely buy that set in Troup. I can get it here at a very reasonable price.

We should shop here because local businesses, made up of our friends and neighbors, deserve our support. I would much rather do business with local folks than to go to another county. It is my patriotic duty to do so.

Troup County- like all counties- needs taxes to carry on its responsibilities. People who go out of town to shop are depriving the county in which they live of needed revenues.

I even believe that we should support our local churches. I talked to one man who goes all the way to Atlanta to hear Charles Stanley. Yes, Dr. Stanley is a great preacher. However, I am convinced there are a lot of fine preachers in Troup County. If you are looking for a church which meets your needs, you will find it here.

The LaGrange-Troup County Chamber of Commerce has said that we are a community blessed with a diverse mix of businesses. Their motto “Trade in Troup” is most appropriate.

I agree completely with the article. But, the American Chamber of Commerce is taking a stand on global warming that is untenable.Somehow, they say they're for capping greenhouse emissions, but are against legislation to do that. Wrong-headed organizations should not be supported, the $ is all they know.
