A young boy walked into Family Dollar at 916 Hogansville Road, took $34 worth of candy and a $10 shower curtain, then attempted to flee with the goods - but left behind some evidence.

The manager told police that the boy walked in about 2:50 p.m. Monday with a black and brown backpack. When he was leaving, she told him show her what was in the bag, suspecting that he had shoplifted.

The boy began to unzip the large compartment, clinched tight on it and fled, leaving the bag with the woman.

He left several sheets of notebook paper in the bag with his name on them.

Taser used on belligerent man

A Lindsey Street man was struck in the back with a Taser after cursing at police officers, knocking one down during a struggle and being uncooperative.

Police gave this account:

An officer was at a call in the 1200 block of Lindsey Street about 3:45 a.m. Saturday when a man across the street began yelling and cursing in his direction. The man, who appeared to be intoxicated, was asked three times by the officer to keep the noise down, and other men on the porch told the angry man to calm down and sit on the porch, but he refused.

The officer attempted to arrest the man for disorderly conduct, but the man snatched his hands away multiple times, still cursing at the officer. The two then struggled, falling to the ground, and the man told the officer through clinched teeth to “come on” combatively after jumping to his feet.

The officer pulled out his Taser in an attempt to make the man cooperate. The man still refused to put his hands behind his head. The people on the porch told him to do what the officer asked, but he still refused. The officer then used the Taser on him, striking him in the back.

The man, who refused treatment from rescue personnel, was charged with public drunkenness, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.

A LaGrange man said he left his pickup truck at Overlook Golf Course on South Smith Road after a class reunion there Saturday night. When he returned to the truck Sunday morning, his Ping I-3 golf clubs valued at $700 had been stolen from the cab behind the seats. The man said he had his name monogrammed on the strap and his initials were on the gloves and each ball.
