Police gave this account:
A man had invited his ex-girlfriend to his residence to rekindle their relationship. While she was there, the man “snapped” and began hitting her. The woman ran to an nearby residence with the man behind her. She began beating on the door, and as the resident opened it, the man began stabbing her in the back of the head with an unknown object.
Police found a puncture wound at the base of her skull, but the wound was said to be superficial by members of American Medical Response.
The man fled on foot, and the incident was charged as battery.
Man says he stole from machines
A former employee of Five Star Food Service said he took $1,440.32 from the company’s vending machines across LaGrange in August and September.
Because there was no damage to the vending machines, officers felt the thief was using a key.
Police said the man was identified as the person responsible for a Franklin theft after he posed as a Five Star employee and night security officers let him in a location.
At the Franklin Police Department, the man said he committed the Franklin theft and the six thefts in LaGrange: Holiday Inn Express, Valley Ridge Apartments, Cameron Crossing apartments, Jameson Inn, LaGrange Toyota and Striffler-Hamby Mortuary.
Charges are pending.
Wrong food order irks residents
Two residents of the Stay Lodge at 1610 Whitesville Road told police they received the wrong Chinese food, paid for it and never received the right one.
Officers said the two called in their order and paid for it when it arrived. Realizing the meal was not what they ordered, they called the restaurant back, asking for the right order. An employee returned and picked up the food without bringing the correct one.
Officers told the two it was a civil matter.
Fake bills used to pay for hairdo
A woman paid for hair treatment with six $20 bills at Angel Hair Braiding at 825 N. Greenwood St. The stylist later went across the street to a gas station to purchase a money order, and the cashier told her the bills were counterfeit.
Damage
— Vulgar words and lines were scratched into a Dodge Intrepid parked in the 200 block of Handley Street, causing damage in excess of $500.
— A vehicle struck a car in the parking lot of the Summit station at 208 Greenwood St., causing damage in excess of $500. The driver fled.
— A vandal broke a living room window of a residence in the 500 block of Burr Street, causing $100 damage.
Thefts, burglaries
— Various items including upholstery tools and assorted meats, with a total value of $999, were taken from a storage shed in the 100 block of Cherry Street.
— A Honda XR 80 valued at $700 was taken from the front yard of a residence in the first block of Sanford Avenue.
— Two weed trimmers were taken from a lawn maintenance trailer in the 700 block of Revis Street.
— A thief took $100, some prescription medicine and a driver’s license, with a total value of $152, from a vehicle in the Wal-Mart parking lot at 803 New Franklin Road.
— A thief took a Samsung Behold valued at $150 from a vehicle in the RBC Bank parking lot at 101 N. Greenwood St.
— A washer and dryer valued at $1,000 were stolen from outside a residence in the 2000 block of New Hutchinson Mill Road.
— Items valued at $740 were stolen in a burglary in the first block of Warner Road.
— A student at Callaway Middle School said his cell phone was stolen while he was in gym class.
Fire
A fire reported at 3:44 p.m. Thursday destroyed 440 bales of hay valued at $6,000 in a barn owned by Ray Jones at 3302 Bartley Road. The fire, which caused minor damage to the barn, was attributed to spontaneous combustion.
Guilty plea
Tony Freddale Rhone Sr., 44, of LaGrange received three years in prison and two years’ probation on charges of selling cocaine.
