The Troup High softball team’s appearance in the Class AAA state tournament was short-lived.
The Lady Tigers, who earned a No. 4 seed after dropping their two Region 2-AAA tournament games, lost twice at No. 1 West Laurens on Tuesday.
The Lady Raiders won the first game 2-0 and the second game 4-1.
It was another case of a struggling offense from Troup, according to first-year head coach George Gilbert.
“We had hits, we just couldn’t get the runs in,” he said.
It was the same story last week in the region tournament, when Troup came in with a No. 1 seed after winning the region outright in the regular season.
Troup lost two straight games to Shaw and Columbus, and were shut out by both.
While the postseason wasn’t productive, the Lady Tigers had a terrific regular season.
Gilbert, in his first season as Troup’s coach, led the team to a 5-1 region record, including a 3-2 win over LaGrange in the regular season finale to earn the region’s No. 1 seed.
Troup returns many players next year, but will lose ace pitcher Victoria Hull, first baseman Carrie Harper and third baseman Kayla Stargill.
All three seniors were leaders for the Lady Tigers.
Hull was on the mound for both of Tuesday’s games.
