Three Shell Mart convenience stores were hit by the same burglars early this morning, Troup County sheriff’s investigators said.

They broke into the stores at 4584 Hamilton Road and at Ga. 18 at Interstate 185 in Harris County. They damaged a door, but couldn’t get inside the store on Upper Big Springs Road.

The suspected burglars wrecked their car on I-185 in Harris County. Troup and Harris sheriff’s deputies, along with LaGrange police, arrested one suspect in the woods with the help of a canine unit. They were still looking for the other.

The name of the suspect who was arrested was not immediately available, but he was being held at the Troup County Jail on two counts of burglary and one count of attempted burglary.

Police say man pushed mom down

A man was accused of pushing his 74-year-old mother at her residence about 9:30 p.m. Thursday.

Police said the mother was making the bed for her son, and she noticed him slipping what she suspected was a liquor bottle under the mattress. He wasn’t supposed to have liquor in the house.

An argument began, and the mother telephoned her daughter. The son smashed the phone on the ground and pushed his mother down, police said.

Officers found the son yelling in the back yard. He was charged with simple battery against a person 65 or older.

The man told officers he knew the woman and paid her $20 for oral sex. She ran and couldn’t be found.

She was treated at West Georgia Medical Center. A condition report was unavailable this morning.
