Odella Whitmore, 86, of Hogansville, passed away Thursday, Oct. 15, 2009, in LaGrange, under the care of Hospice LaGrange.

Mrs. Whitmore was born in Carroll County, and lived in Hogansville all of her adult life. She was a member of Highland Baptist Church and the Grand Chapter Order of the Eastern Star. She will be remembered for her big smile, compassionate spirit, and deep commitment to, and love for her family and friends. In whatever capacity you came to know her, she cared about the simple goodness in people, not what they had or what they might do for her. She and her husband established the foundation for their long-term marriage of 67 years when they moved to Hogansville in 1944, where they both worked at Uniroyal until their retirement in 1985.

Left to cherish her beloved memory are her devoted husband, Ezra, and four daughters, Janice (Louis) Hughes of Smarr, Joyce (Donny) Osborne of Mayo, FL, Patricia Miles of Ridge Spring, SC, and Ellen (J.E.) Strickland of Luthersville; along with her brother, Ernest Stitcher of Cullman, AL; and her sister, Hilda Kline of Hogansville. She also leaves behind 7 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; 1 step-grandchild; 2 step-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and many friends, including a special lifelong friend of 63 years, Nellie Evans. She was preceded in death by two grandsons, Stephen Karl Wheelus and Phillip Dodson, Jr.; three sisters; and her parents. She will be forever loved and missed by all who knew her.

The family would like to thank all the wonderful caregivers who assisted in caring for her these past weeks, including the staff at West Georgia Medical Center, her team of doctors, and West Georgia Hospice, which made her days more peaceful.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, in the Chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville, with interment in Myrtle Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5 until 7 this evening.
