Troup County high school students will be taking home information on the school system’s new online records program today.

Parent Portal, a new online access system replacing the previously used EdLine, will allow parents and guardians to keep track of their students’ progress in school at their home or office computers.

Grades, upcoming assignments, attendance and announcements will be available at the click of a computer mouse.

Parents will be able to easily e-mail teachers, find links to school Web sites and see their students’ assessment results all the way from the Criterion-Referenced Competency Test in middle school to the last time they take the SAT in high school.

Parents will receive an Internet acceptable use policy form from their students. This sheet must be signed and returned to the student’s school for access to Parent Portal.

When it’s returned, parents will be issued an activation key allowing them to set up a personal user ID and password. A separate account will be created for each parent or guardian, so each must sign a form.

Currently, Parent Portal is available in English, Spanish and different forms of Chinese. A Korean version is being planned.

Middle school students will receive the information a week from today.

For more information on Parent Portal, parents and guardians can head to the school system Web site at www.troup.org or the portal site at campus.troup.org for an instruction guide and a copy of the acceptable use policy.
