Twin sisters and their cousin pleaded guilty Tuesday to a brutal assault at West Point Lake.
The 22-year-old twins, Amy Lynn Mezick and Adriane Lorraine Martinez, and Gary Eugene Dustin Robinson, 18, all of LaGrange, were each sentenced to five years in prison and five years’ probation for aggravated assault. Robinson also pleaded guilty to a robbery charge, but didn’t get any extra time.
Assistant District Attorney William Hocutt IV said Alphonso Morales, 35, had been asking one or both women to go out with him and “they got sick of it.”
He said they conspired with Robinson and another cousin, Christopher Loyd Shepherd, 21, of LaGrange, to ambush the victim. Shepherd’s case still is pending.
Mezick drove the victim to West Point Lake’s McGee Access about 11:30 p.m. June 9 under the pretense of a romantic interlude.
“She got out of the car and the two males drug Morales out of the car, and punched and kicked him in the head, face and body,” Hocutt said. “It was a good old-fashioned beat-down.”
Robinson pulled a knife to keep Morales from getting up. Shepherd allegedly went through the victim’s pockets and took about $13, which they used to buy soft drinks.
The cousins got into Mezick’s car and drove away, leaving Morales bloody, bruised and battered, and without a cell phone, Hocutt said. He had to walk back into town, where he called police.
“The victim said he knew those girls and in his mind he was just friendly with them,” Hocutt said.
