Continuing the rollout of the new student information system, middle school students in the Troup County school system will be taking home information today about the Parent Portal.

The portal, which replaces Edline, provides parents and guardians with online access to student information including class schedules, student grades, attendance, assignments, and school and school system announcements.

The portal also provides access to assessment results, which currently include the Criterion Referenced Competency Test for middle school students and SAT, ACT and the Georgia High School Graduation Test for high school students. Parents also will have the ability through the portal to print progress reports, correspond with teachers via email, and connect to the system and school Web sites. Information may be viewed in English, Spanish or Chinese. Plans are in the works to provide the portal in Korean.

The rollout began with parents of high school students receiving access last week.

“So far, the process seems to be going smoothly,” said Don Miller, chief financial officer for Troup County schools. “In the initial week, we created 252 parent accounts representing 390 students. Throughout the week, parents logged in to the portal over 400 times.”

On Wednesday, high school students were given codes of their own so they could access the portal to review their information.

Middle school parents were to receive an Internet acceptable use policy for the Parent Portal today, which must be signed and returned to the student’s school. Upon return of the form, parents will be given their unique activation key allowing them to set up a user ID and password. Once this is completed, parents may access the portal from any computer with Internet service.

An instruction guide and a copy of the use policy are available on the portal and on the system Web site: www.troup.org under the tab “For Parents.”
