In response to Fuller Sloan’s letter (Charity for the wealthy, Oct. 24):
It is obvious that you are upset that you are unable to control where the taxpayers of Troup County decide where to spend their discretionary income. We are fortunate in this day and time to live in a city with museums, a symphony, and a number of performing arts. As for LaGrange Academy. I have a child who attends LaGrange Academy and I take issue with your accusation that of the academics and the fine arts available to the students. Our students are taught by top-notch teachers, academic, art and music. If you don’t want to send your children to LA, then lucky for you it is not required by law.
For those of us who do, I want you to know, on top of the tuition that we pay, we also pay a big property tax bill to help educate children in the public schools.
