Mr. Jack Bruce Chipman Sr. 91, of LaGrange closed the last chapter in the book of his life here on earth on October 29, 2009. His final days were spent surrounded by family and friends. On the bed with him was his loyal companion, Dixie and devoted Buddy and Buster.

Mr. Chipman, aka Pa Pa and Uncle Jack, was born March 11, 1918, in LaGrange, Troup County, Georgia. He was the son of the late Frank Chipman and Charlie Bell Newsom Chipman. He was a true patriot and served his country proudly in WWII in the South Pacific with the US Navy as a Boatswain’s Mate Third Class in charge of LCM Landing Craft, “The USNS Algol,” an attack cargo ship used to transport troops or cargo in battle conditions. He retired from West Point Pepperell in 1986 at the age of 68 and shortly after worked as a consultant with Ashworth and Co. for an additional five years.

Jack was a devoted member of New Community Church. He worked tirelessly all his life for God and his family. His passion was helping others and his love touched many lives. Jack was a sweet, kind and giving man and had a heart for those in need. He was a true champion of the heart. He will be sadly missed but remembered as a magnificent man, loving father, brother, friend and master to his dog, Dixie.

His memory will forever be cherish by his daughter, Peggy Chipman Patterson and sister, Betty Matthews of LaGrange; grandchildren, Lee Patterson, David Patterson, Angela and husband Joe Hamilton, Julie Dollar, Rex Scott, all of LaGrange, GA; Jack Bruce Chipman, III (Chip) of Tallahassee, Fl , Patrick Ruben Chipman of Franklin, Indiana, Greg Scott of Acworth, GA and Joey Scott, Alpharetta, GA and 13 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and extended loving family members and friends. He was preceded in death by daughter, Brenda Chipman Dollar Thornton; three sons, Patrick Chipman, Jack Bruce Chipman Jr., and Donald (Rex) Scott; sisters, Mary Mathis, Willie Mae Bowen; brothers, Alton, Curtis and Harold Chipman; and granddaughter, Kimberly Chipman.

A celebration of his life will be held at 1:00 Saturday at the New Community Church, N. Davis Road, with Rev. David Kegel officiating. Interment will be in Meadoway Gardens. The family will be at his home at 206 Fair Street and will receive friends at the funeral home Friday evening from 6:00 until 8:00.

Flowers will be accepted or a contribution in the memory of Mr. Jack Bruce Chipman may be made to Hospice LaGrange who contributed greatly to his comfort during his last months.
