A 58-year-old LaGrange man told police he was walking at Whitesville Road and West Mulberry Street about 10:30 a.m. Friday when a man ran up from behind, wrapped his arm around the victim’s neck and pulled a pistol.

He demanded money, but the victim repeatedly told him he didn’t have any. The robber then threw him to the ground and fled on foot without taking anything. He was wearing a red hooded sweatshirt with dark pants.

Anyone with information about the incident was asked to call police detective Colleen Hewett at (706) 883-2674.

Guilty plea

Cathy Marie Brown, 48, of LaGrange was sentenced Friday to two years in prison and eight years’ probation for stealing $145,516.85 from her employer, Just Sneakers at 407 Hines St.

Brown, who pleaded guilty to theft by taking charges, also was ordered to pay back the money. It was taken a little at a time between Jan. 1, 2007, and March 19 of this year.
