Rain prompted cancellation of the United Way’s 19th Annual Chili Cook-Off and other activities that had been scheduled for 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday.
In addition, costume contests for children and pets also were called off by the Downtown LaGrange Development Authority. Only trick-or-treating at downtown merchants went on as planned.
“We had a huge turnout for trick-or-treat,” said Joann Gentry, project coordinator for the DLDA. “The streets were packed with kids and parents.”
Gentry said weather forecasters were right when they predicted rain starting at 3 p.m.
“You have to call these things off because you have to set up so much equipment,” she said. “We hope the weather cooperates next year because it’s one of our biggest and most favorite events.”
