Voters go to the polls Tuesday for municipal elections in West Point and Hogansville, and a special election for the District 129 seat in the Georgia House of Representatives.

West Point will elect three council members and vote on a tax allocation district, while Hogansville will elect a mayor and two council members.

In LaGrange, Mayor Jeff Lukken and City Council members Nick Woodson and Norma Tucker qualified without opposition, as did Jim Thornton, who will assume Tom Gore’s council seat after Gore announced he would not seek re-election.

Running for the District 129 seat are Republicans Earl T. Davis of Hamilton, Steve Earles of Pine Mountain, Jerry Luquire of Columbus and Kip Smith of Columbus.

The winner will serve the remaining year in the two-year term of Vance Smith Jr. of Pine Mountain, who resigned to become commissioner of the state Department of Transportation on June 25.

The district encompasses southern Troup County, including West Point, most of Harris County and the northwest corner of Muscogee County.

Polls are open from 7 a.m to 7 p.m.
