Police said ITP Global Services Inc. at 1508 Whites-ville St. had called the man saying his interview had been successful, and he had gotten the job.
The victim had applied for a job earlier in the year but said he had never been interviewed. After the call, he went to the office and found that an impersonator had walked in, given his name and Social Security number, did well on the interview and was hired.
The victim was advised by officers to check with the Social Security Administration.
Man hides on closet with dope
A Habersham Drive man was charged with possession of marijuana with an intent to distribute after police found him hiding in an apartment closet with a wanted man.
After a call to Crime Stoppers, police went to the Benjamin Harvey Hills Homes looking for the man with a probation violation when two women at an apartment told them the man wasn’t there. Police heard something move inside the apartment’s heating, venting and air conditioning closet.
After opening the locked door and finding the wanted man, officers said they also found Cedric Wortham, 22, behind him with 12 bags of marijuana and a Daisy BB gun.
Police said Wortham claimed the drugs.
A marijuana cigarette and two more bags were also found on the women, who were charged with obstruction for attempting to hide the two men.
Wortham was charged with possession of marijuana with an intent to distribute and obstruction.
All four were charged with criminal trespass.
Arrests
— Alphonzia Bray Jr., 19, of Lindsey Street was charged with burglary and obstruction.
— Tiffany Laster, 21, of Albany was charged by Hogansville police with failure to maintain lane, possession of marijuana with an intent to distribute and trafficking in ecstasy.
Damage
Vandals scratched a Kia Sephia parked in the 1400 block of Forrest Avenue, causing more than $500 damage.
Thefts, burglaries
— Thieves took a 57-inch flat-screen TV, a power card and various clothes, with a total value of $4,150, from a residence in the first block of Sirrine Street.
— Car audio equipment and CDs with a total value of $1,254 were taken from a vehicle in the West Georgia Technical College parking lot at 1317 Orchard Hill Road. The thief also shattered two windows, causing about $200 damage.
— A wallet containing identification and credit cards and $910 was taken from a residence in the 300 block of Ware Street.
— A television valued at $100 and about $11 in change were taken from Humphries Garden Solutions at 615 Hill St.
— A burglar stole items valued at $2,300 from a home in the 100 block of Buck Smith Road near Hogansville.
— Several pieces of construction equipment valued at $3,820 were stolen from a shop at 176 Ware’s Cross Road.
Motorist hits air-conditioning unit
A man struck a window air-conditioning unit in the middle of Orchard Hill Road with his truck about 7:30 a.m. Wednesday.
Police said the man was driving on Orchard Hill Road near Executive Drive when he struck the unit.
No one was injured.
Damage to the truck was less than $500, and the damaged air conditioner was moved to the side of the road.
