Dear Editor:
Congratulations to Andrea Lovejoy on the announcement of her upcoming retirement as editor of the LaGrange Daily News. Truly, Mrs. Lovejoy is deserving to receive unlimited, pleasurable leisure time with family and friends. Her extended family, the readers of LDN, will miss her greatly.
Since February 2006, the LaGrange Daily News has become an important part of my daily routine. Before my sister passed away she would ask, and I would share the area’s news with her each day. Now as the primary caregiver of my nephew, the newspaper remains a part of the daily routine. Television, radio and the internet have become dominant news sources; however, the printed newspaper will never become obsolete as long as the generation of Mrs. Lovejoy and myself live. John Elway of the Denver Broncos once stated the importance of reading a newspaper each day. Educators today need to continue a strong emphasis on reading and writing. Miss Lillian Clark and Miss Louise Owen taught us well and left an indelible mark years ago at LaGrange High School.
A living page tribute to the outgoing editor and a foreword from the incoming editor would be worthwhile and appropriate. After all, the news editor will have some “big shoes to fill” and may need to find “a gravy spoon for his mouth” to keep this ship asail.
Thank you for all the informative, as well as entertaining, editorials you have written since 2006. Hopefully, after a period of rest and relaxation, you may consider compiling your articles into book form. “Andrea’s Journalism Journey” or “My Love-Joy Journal” would allow me to clear the stack of editorials that have been clipped to read again or to share with others. Also, the grandtwins and the princess just might have a thought or two to share with us as we watch you sail off into retirement.
