An employee getting ready to use the van Monday found that the ignition had been popped and the key wouldn’t fit into it.
The van had remained in the parking lot over the weekend.
Officers found a large quantity of dirt inside, indicating that someone had driven down a dirt road very fast. There were no signs of forced entry, and all the light bulbs had been removed.
The vehicle is valued at $15,000 and the damage at $500.
Rig hits Buick; driver flees
A tractor-trailer rig struck the driver’s side of a Buick Century while turning right from the center lane of South Greenwood Street and Vernon Street.
Police said Charles James, 53, of Snellville waited for the light to change in the center lane of Vernon Street and turned into the Buick driven by Laura Kelly, 34, of Murphy Avenue. Her passenger jumped out and attempted to flag down James, who continued to Lafayette Parkway.
Officers caught up with the vehicle on Lafayette Parkway and charged James with failure to maintain lane and leaving the scene of an accident.
Kelly was treated at the scene for injuries sustained during the wreck.
