Dear Veterans, Thank you for fighting for us so we could be free. Think about it – if you were not fighting all of these years, we would not be free to do whatever we would like. Thank you all for fighting war so we could be free. I am so sure that your family would be happy to see you. Remember one thing – if you go back into war, keep on fighting hard. – Noah Meyerson
Dear Veterans, Thank you for letting us go to school. Without you fighting for our country, I wouldn’t even be able to write this card. You have done so much for our country that you deserve a thanks. Is it really hard to work in the Army? Because I do not think that it’s so easy. Thank you for coming here anyway. – Fikayo Oshinowo
Dear Veteran, Thank you for fighting for our country. To me, you feel like family for giving us freedom to do what we like. You are a hero. What was it like to be in the military? Did you have family there with you? I think the country likes you very much. – Courtney Keeble
Dear Veteran, Thank you for fighting for our country. We need people like you to do things other can’t and risk your life for ours. I thank you with a grateful heart because my uncle is in the Marines, so I understand. – Raine Hess
The school hosted veterans on Wednesday, with students dressing in red, white and blue, and bringing items to be sent to troops serving in Iraq or Afghanistan. A candle was lit in honor of those serving overseas.
Veterans from all ways were welcomed by members of the National Honor Society and the advanced placement history class. Kindergarten and first-grade classes sang “God Bless America” and led the pledge of allegiance. Second- and third-graders sang “The Armed Forces Medley,” and veterans were asked to stand when their branch of the service was featured.
The main focus of the afternoon was for veterans to share their experiences with the student, Veterans brought memorabilia and pictures to heighten the experience. This was the second year the school has hosted the event. Last year the focus was solely on World War II veterans. Students so enjoyed their experiences with the veterans that they wanted to again host the event.
The high point of the day was students thanking the veterans for their service, assuring them that they will not forget, and committing their generation to continuing in the footsteps of these veterans with patriotism, service and sacrifice.
