A Ridley Avenue man has been charged with murder in the fatal shooting a convenience store clerk about 12:40 a.m. Saturday. Police said Christopher Caruso, 18, allegedly shot Joseph Boison, 55, of Wynnwood Drive in the chest during a robbery at the Shell Mart at 505 Vernon St. Boison was found on the store floor and was unresponsive when medical personnel arrived. He was taken to West Georgia Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 1:27 a.m. The store’s cash registers and a number of lottery tickets were taken. Witnesses at the store gave officers a description of Caruso, his vehicle and his tag number. Police found the vehicle abandoned on nearby Alford Street and Caruso hiding behind a Ridge Street residence. Evidence from the crime was found in the vehicle and on Caruso, police said. He was being held without bond Saturday night in the Troup County jail on charges of murder, aggravated assault, armed robbery and possession of a weapon during the commission of a crime.
