A trail dedicated to early learning officially will open Tuesday at Granger Park.

Constructed with volunteer help in October, the trail offers interactive signs and activities for parents or caregivers and children.

Success by Six, a United Way of West Georgia program, sponsors the project.

The Born Learning trail will generate visibility and deepen our community’s understanding of the importance of early learning, said Teresa Moore, Success by Six coordinator.

Some of the trail activities are designed to build a child’s curiosity and confidence. Other games address language skills. Still other games build readiness for math and problem solving. All the games involve physical activity which will promote development of fine and gross motor skills. All preschool children should enjoy the trail immensely, Moore said.

“The interactive games will give parents, grandparents and caregivers easy, fun ways to help young children increase early learning,” she said. “Early learning can increase graduation rates, improve workforce development, reduce crime rates and generate a healthier and happier community. It all starts at the beginning by nurturing the whole child and developing a love of learning, which continues as they go through school and life. Completing high school and even higher education improves our workforce, and reduces crime by providing employable youth.”

Moore said a caregiver completing the trail even one time will leave “with an abundance of information on how children learn.”

“If every parent or caregiver internalizes one of the trail tips, what a difference will be made in a child’s life!” Moore said. “The welcome sign itself states, ‘Together you can turn everyday moments into learning moments,’ which encourages parents to take advantage of learning opportunities throughout the day.”

— The trail will be dedicated at 4 p.m. Tuesday with a celebration including hot dogs, balloons and fun for children. The public may attend.
