Would-be robber holds resident at knifepoint

Police were looking for a man who attempted to rob a Bacon Street man at knifepoint

Police said the assailant knocked on the door of the victim’s house about 3 a.m. Saturday. The victim answered the door, and a man came in wearing a dark coat and blue jeans, held a knife to the victim’s neck, and demanded money.

The victim told the robber he didn’t have any money, and the assailant fled the scene.

Man accused of attempted rape

A Bacon Street man was charged with attempted rape after allegedly forcing himself onto a woman to have sex.

Police said Richard Cox, 47, attempted to force himself on the woman about 1:15 a.m. Sunday.

When you gotta go …

A LaGrange man was charged with indecent exposure after walking behind Corley Drugs at 523 S. Greenwood St. and urinating near the garbage cans in front of an officer.

Police said the man was walking in the store when he said, “I have to pee.” An officer inside the store followed the man outside and saw him zip up his pants behind the store.

When asked what he was doing, the man said he was going to the bathroom.

Arrests

— Maurice Grier, 25, of Kingswood Drive was charged with possession of marijuana with an intent to distribute, intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of a housing project, obstruction and a probation violation.

— Antonio Gamboa, 25, of Union City was charged by LaGrange police with possession of cocaine, failure to obey a traffic control officer and driving while unlicensed.

— Troup County sheriff’s deputies arrested Dedra Nichole Williams, 29, of Cataula after a traffic stop about 4 a.m. Saturday at Hamilton Road and Interstate 85. She was charged with possession of cocaine, DUI, driving while license suspended, failure to maintain lane, and giving a false name and date of birth.

Damage

— A vandal scratched a car in the American Legion parking lot at 204 Keyes St., causing about $1,500 damage.

— A vehicle struck a car in the 200 block of Young’s Mill Road and fled after causing more than $500 damage.

Thefts, burglaries

— Jewelry and a 22. caliber handgun with a total value of $1,550 were taken from a residence in the 300 block of Horace King Street.

— A thief shattered a window of the Chevron station at 2255 West Point Road and took 15 cartons of Newport cigarettes valued at $615.

— Someone took a JVC stereo valued at $300 from a vehicle in the 100 block of Wynnwood Drive.

— A bicycle valued at $130 was taken from the front porch of a residence in the first block of Barnard Avenue.

— A Marietta man reported the theft of an outboard motor valued at $1,400 from his sailboat at Southern Harbor.

— Students at Callaway High School reported the theft of a $200 cell phone and a $60 iPod.

Vehicle fire

What appeared to be a blue Chevrolet Cavalier was found engulfed in flames Friday night in the 600 block of Tin Bridge Road near Hogansville. Officers were unable to find a tag or vehicle identification number.
