Wreck victim remains hospitalized

Justin Lane, 15, remained in critical condition this morning at Atlanta Medical Center following Thursday’s wreck between a Toyota Camry and a Freightliner log truck at West Point Road and Lukken Industrial Drive.

A Troup High School student, Lane was in the back seat of the Camry. Two teens, Ashley and Amanda Mallory, were treated at West Georgia Medical Center and released.

Urination leads to arrest

A Costley Road man was pepper-sprayed after at-tempting to fight a clerk and a police officer in the parking lot of JK Food Mart at 1109 New Franklin Road.

Police arrived to find Daniel Hogan, 29, being held down by the clerk. The clerk was bleeding from his temple and hand.

Police said Hogan smelled of an alcoholic beverage and was unsteady on his feet.

The clerk told officers Hogan walked into the parking lot and began urinating. When he confronted Hogan about the incident, Hogan began verbally assaulting him and threatening him before physically assaulting him, the clerk said.

The clerk got control of Hogan before police arrived.

Officers gave this account:

Hogan began fighting back as officers attempted to put him into the police car, saying he needed more alcohol.

An officer threatened him with pepper spray, and Hogan refused to get in. The spray was used on him, but he turned away. He then spit in the officer’s face while cursing, and he was sprayed in the face to little effect.

Hogan then began using his body to push the officer out of the way, saying he was going to kill her. Another officer pulled Hogan into the vehicle.

He was charged with terroristic threats, public drunkenness, battery, disorderly conduct, public indecency, obstruction and simple battery.

Man charged after fare dispute

A man was charged with disorderly conduct after getting in an argument with a cab driver about the fare and slapping the driver in the face.

Police said the assailant was dropped off at the RaceTrac station at 1517 La-fayette Parkway, and the fare was $14. The passenger said it was supposed to be $10 and refused to pay the difference.

The passenger then be-came angry, yelling and cursing in the driver’s face before slapping him in the eye and knocking his coffee onto the ground.

Arrests

— Kennedy Banks Jr., 23, of Kings Park Lane was charged with sale of ecstasy, sale within 1,000 feet of a housing project, possession of an imitation substance with intent to distribute, sale of marijuana and violation of the Georgia Controlled Substance Act within a park or housing project.

— Dedra Williams, 24, of Cataula was charged by Troup County sheriff’s deputies with possession of cocaine, giving a false name or information to officers, driving on a suspended or revoked license, driving under the influence and failure to maintain lane.

— Hagie Tunkara, 36, of Atlanta was charged by Hogansville police with possession of marijuana, possession with intent to distribute and obstruction.

— Sheila Hoard, 48, of Snelson Street was charged with possession of cocaine and theft by shoplifting.

Damage

A vehicle struck a car in the 600 block of Hill Street and fled, causing an un-known amount of damage.

Wreck

Two people were injured in a two-car accident on Lafayette Parkway at the northbound Interstate 85 off-ramp.

Police said Melissa Teaver, 40, of Young’s Mill Road was traveling toward the ramp in a Chrysler Sebring when a Hyundai Accent driven by Sharon Boyd pulled in front of her from the ramp.

Teaver was unable to stop and struck the vehicle.

Both Teaver and Boyd were treated at West Georgia Medical Center and released. Boyd was cited for failure to yield.

Fires

— A fire reported at 4:11 a.m. Sunday destroyed the home of Johnny and Shirley Gaddy at 1116 Blue Creek Road near Hogansville.

Nobody was home when firefighters arrived and discovered the structure in flames.

The cause and origin of the fire were under investigation The loss was estimated at $99,000.

— A lawn mower caught fire, burning part of a yard and a derelict Ford Escort after its owner cut the grass and covered the machine at 405 Power Plant Road.

Troup County fire officials estimated damage at $2,000.

Thefts, burglaries

— A resident of the 300 block of Cooley Road said someone pried the lock off the front door of her residence, broke the living room window from the inside and punched the drywall in several areas. A ceramic dog was taken.

— A resident of the 300 block of Waugh Road reported the theft of an aluminum extension ladder valued at $150. The man said he had heard the ladder collapse and a vehicle drive away.

— A rifle and dual-axle trailer were stolen at a residence in the first block of Deerfield Road.
