The traffic control devices were installed Friday morning, and so far, from what officials have seen from their Ridley Avenue building, it’s been a success.
“Folks with the yellow (blinking light) are somewhat tenuous,” said City Manager Tom Hall. “… Everybody’s getting use to it.”
The change from regular traffic lights was made as part of a study to improve traffic flow at several downtown intersections.
No changes have been made to the traffic lights of Broome Street at Bull and Main streets. City Council decided not to change Main and Broome because of high pedestrian traffic from a movie theater at that corner. And council has held off on making a decision for Broome and Bull until a further look at how heavy pedestrian traffic is with the public parking lot at the intersection.
Council is expected to discuss the impact of placing stop signs at Broome and Bull while turning the stoplight into a blinking light at its meeting at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 8 in the council chamber at 208 Ridley Ave.
“Right now (on Haralson Avenue), it’s working,” Hall said. “We’re not seeing any serious delays.”
