A freshman at Troup High School has died from injuries he received in a traffic accident Nov. 19 at West Point Road and Lukken Industrial Drive.

Justin Lane, 15, of West Point Road died at 5:05 p.m. Wednesday at Atlanta Medical Center from “traumatic brain injury,” Troup County Coroner Jeff Cook said. He had been unconscious and on a ventilator since the accident, and had surgery to relieve pressure on the brain.

Lane’s girlfriend, Ashley Mallory, 13, and her sister, Amanda Mallory, 19, both of LaGrange, were treated at West Georgia Medical Center and released.

They were on their way to pick up another student that morning when their Toyota Camry collided with a log truck owned by Dominion Industries. The car was going through the intersection as the truck was making a left turn and the vehicles collided.

Justin, a member of Future Farmers of America at Troup High, was in the back seat of the car and “got the brunt of the force” from the collision, said his grandfather, Fred Lane.Arrangements will be announced by Hunter-Allen-Myhand Funeral Home.
