Thieves put man in headlock, rob him

A Revis Street man was robbed trying to get into his home about 6:35 p.m. Tuesday.

Police said two men were standing in his yard when the victim walked to the residence, said “Excuse me” to the men and climbed the stairs to the house. One of the men then grabbed him in a headlock and the other went into his pockets and took about $50 before fleeing.

Officer keeps man breathing

A police officer was called to a residence in the 200 block of Ware street for a man complaining of chest pains. When he arrived, he found the 47-year-old unconscious on the ground.

The officer applied a sternum rub to awaken the man, but to no effect. He hooked his automated external defibrillator to the victim and began to administer CPR.

After a few CPR cycles, the victim was still unconscious but began moving his fingers. LaGrange firefighters arrived and took over emergency duties.

The victim, who had a history of heart attacks, had an erratic pulse. He was stabilized and taken to West Georgia Medical Center.

Jobless man takes purse in ER

A man was charged with theft after taking a purse from a shelf inside the West Georgia Medical Center emergency department about 3:15 p.m. Tuesday.

Police said a security member saw the man conceal the purse under his jacket. He then approached the man and asked him what was under his coat.

The man said he was recently laid off from his job and had no source of income, and gave the purse back.

The purse contained two credit cards and a debit card valued at $3. Nothing was missing from the purse.

Damage

A vehicle struck a Honda Accord in the parking lot of Wal-Mart at 803 New Franklin Road and fled after causing more than $500 damage.

Thefts, burglaries

— A man reported the theft of a Mexican pit bulldog from the back yard of his residence in the first block of Wilcox Road. The 9-year-old female had a black collar with spikes on it.

— A resident of the 100 block of Mount Zion Church Road said someone entered her residence and rearranged her daughter’s clothes, but didn’t steal anything.

— Two shotguns and two rifles, with a total value of $1,650, were taken from a residence in the 100 block of Alford Street.

— About $1,000 in tools were taken from a shed in the 900 block of Kissler Street.

Fire

A kitchen fire reported at 5:27 p.m. Tuesday caused an estimated $30,000 damage at the home of Patrick Hart at 104 Brookstone Drive.

The fire, attributed to unattended cooking, was confined to the kitchen, but there was smoke and heat damage throughout the residence.

Guilty pleas

Quanita Pleshette Harris, 38, of LaGrange was sentenced to two years in prison and nine years’ probation Tuesday for stealing more than $300 worth of clothing from J.C. Penney at LaGrange Mall.

A co-defendant, Valyncia Shantrice Henry, 25, of LaGrange received one year in prison and nine years’ probation.

Both women were ordered to stay away from the mall during the length of their probation.
