A memorial service for Cynthia Ann Nail of Boeblingen, Germany, was held Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at 9:30 AM at Aveleigh Presbyterian Church in Newberry, SC.

The daughter of Mary Ann Lynch and the late Martin S. Smith, Mrs. Nail was a graduate of Greenville High School, Greenville, GA., and Augusta College with a Masters degree in Special Education from the University of South Carolina.

A longtime resident of Anderson, SC, Mrs. Nail worked as head of the Dept. of Early Childhood Education at Tri-County Technical College for many years and was a sitting member of Southern Early Childhood Association. An active member of the community, Mrs. Nail was a member of Grace Episcopal Church and served as president of the Junior Service League in Anderson. She spent the last fourteen years in Germany as a civilian employee of the U.S. Army in Children and Youth Services and later in Installation Services. She continued to stay active in her community, serving as president of the Association for Young Children Europe.

Mrs. Nail is survived by her mother of Newberry; as well as her two sons, Jason Nail of Portland, Oregon and John Nail of Charleston, SC; and two brothers, David Smith of Asheville, NC and Allen Smith of Newberry.

Memorials may be made to Aveleigh Presbyterian Church, 1211 Calhoun St., Newberry, SC 29108.
