The Troup County Health Department now will give the swine flu vaccine to anyone who re-quests it.

“We have a limited supply and we still want to target the five high-risk groups,” health department nurse manager Melody Wegienka said Wednesday.

Those groups are: pregnant women; those who care for infants younger than 6 months old; medical personnel; people ages 6 months to 24 years; and people 25 to 64 who have medical conditions that put them at higher risk for flu-related complications.

Wegienka said state health officials lifted the restrictions in a memo earlier this week.

The vaccine is available at the health department at 900 Dallis St. and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at LaGrange Mall’s community room next to Radio Shack. There’s no charge for the vaccine, but some insurance companies can be billed the administration fee.

In lieu of payment, people may take a can of food or other nonperishable item to help stock the food closet at LaGrange Personal Aid Association.

People should take identification and insurance cards, and a parent or guardian must be present for anyone younger than 18.
