The four-team Callaway Invitational kicks off today, with the teams from Troup and Lanett facing off at Callaway High.
The girls’ game tips off at 6 p.m., with the boys’ game to follow at 7:30 p.m.
The tournament’s other two teams, Northside and Callaway, play on Friday at 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
The girls’ championship game is Saturday at 6 p.m., with the boys’ title game to follow.
The loser’s bracket games will be played at 3 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.
Troup’s teams are looking to bounce back from losses to Upson-Lee on Tuesday.
The Tigers (2-3) lost 56-54, while the Lady Tigers (2-1) fell 60-47.
Callaway’s boys’ team started this season 2-0, but it has dropped two straight games.
The Lady Cavaliers (0-4), meanwhile, are still looking for their first win.
Callaway boys’ coach Greg Moultrie said playing in these types of events is always beneficial.
“It’s always good to see some other teams outside the region,” he said. “It gives us different looks and different systems to work on. It helps out in our region season.”
The teams from LaGrange High are going to Carrollton for a three-day tournament that begins Friday and wraps up Monday.
Both LaGrange teams play East Coweta Friday at Central-Carrollton High.
The girls’ game tips at 4 p.m., with the boys’ game to follow at 5:30 p.m.
LaGrange’s teams play again on Saturday, and the championship games are Monday at 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
Playing three games in a short period of time will be good for her team, LaGrange girls’ coach Jan Jones said.
“Were about to play a lot of good ball,” Jones said. “It’ll give us a chance to get better.”
Lafayette Christian’s boys’ team will be in Columbus Friday and Saturday for a tournament at Calvary Christian.
The Cougars (1-3) play Calvary Christian at 9 p.m. Friday.
Lafayette head coach Rene Gomez said the tournament will be beneficial for his young players.
“Two more games will help us out,” he said. “These guys, what they need is on-court experince. The more we get of that, the better we’ll be.”
LaGrange Academy and Dawson Street Christian School each play in tournaments down the road.
LaGrange Academy’s team play in the Tatnall Square Christmas Tournament in Macon from Dec. 28-30, while Dawson Street’s boys’ team will play the HIS Academy Christian School tournament in Stone Mountain at the same time.
