The LaGrange Grangers soared to a 50-24 halftime lead Friday night on the way to a 97-68 victory over East Coweta in a tournament at Central-Carrollton High.

The Lady Grangers were also victorious, winning 49-36.

Both teams will play in the semifinals today at Central-Carrollton, with the girls’ game tipping off at 6 p.m. and the boys’ game to follow at 7:30 p.m.

In Friday’s boys’ game, Jamius Gunsby score 19 points to pace the Grangers, while Dionte Mains scored 16.

Antoine Green and Martez Johnson scored 13 and 10 points, respectively.

LaGrange head coach Mike Pauley said his players did a good job of handling East Coweta’s press in the first half.

“They were pressing us and we got it to the rim,” Pauley said. “And we defended well in the first half.”

In the girls’ game, guard Terryuana Godwin scored nine points in her first game of the season.

Godwin had been out while serving a suspension.

“It was a good first game back,” LaGrange coach Jan Jones said. “We’ll have to work her back in. She still has a lot of work to do.”

Post player Arneshia Williams led LaGrange with 18 points, while Steara Mitchell and Brittany Tatum scored eight points apiece.

Williams, Jones said, has been strong all season.

“She’s been playing really well,” Jones said.
