They threw the items in their vehicle, only to find that it wouldn’t start. They then fled on foot toward Dollar General, where employees lost sight of them.

The car tag was registered to an address in Atlanta, and the car was towed from the parking lot.

A Hammett Road man was charged with having a counterfeit controlled substance after his mother told police he had methamphetamine.

Police said Jonathan Nelson, 17, had small plastic bags of varying colors filled with a white substance. Officers tested the bags and found them to be full of Epsom salt rather than methamphetamine as Nelson told them.

He told officers he was attempting to be cool.

Officers also found various drug paraphernalia in Nelson’s room.

While in the back of the police car, officers said Nelson struck the back windows, knocking the passenger windows off track and kicking out the smaller, triangular ones.

He was charged with a violation of the Georgia Controlled Substances Act in counterfeit substances, interference with government property and obstruction.
