Troup County’s jobless rate declined from 12.5 percent to 12.3 percent during the month. It dropped from 12.3 percent to 11.8 percent in Heard County and from 13.8 peercent to 13.1 percent in Meriwether County.
Georgia’s rate, which increased from 10.1 percent in October to 10.2 percent in November, has exceeded the national rate, currently at 10.0 percent, for 24 of the past 25 months. Georgia has lost 192,000 payroll jobs during the past year, but 13,800 have been added in educational and health services.
On Jan. 18, the Labor Department will host a Georgia Jobs Summit at the Georgia Tech Hotel and Conference Center.
“This bipartisan gathering will bring together Georgia’s best minds to develop a comprehensive, state-level strategy that will help spur economic growth and job creation,” Labor Commissioner Michael Thurmond said.
