A 32-year-old LaGrange man told police he was bound and robbed by three males who knocked on his back door about 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the first block of Starmount Drive.

The victim, who said one of the thieves had a small-caliber handgun, was pulled outside and thrown face first onto the ground. They bound his feet and hands with duct tape, blindfolded him and carried him into the apartment, where he was put face down on the living room floor.

They took $400 from his pants pocket, along with 14-carat gold link necklace with a cross valued at $120, a $2,000 computer and a cell phone valued at $120. The victim was able to free himself and call 911.

Two potential suspects were identified.

West Point store robbed

The Circle K convenience store on East 12th Street in West Point was robbed about 4 a.m. today by a male who claimed to have a gun in his pocket.

The clerk, who never saw a weapon, gave him an undisclosed amount of money and he fled on foot.

The robber tried to conceal his face with the hood of his navy blue and white jacket.

Woman hit in head with bottle

A woman at the Sandpiper Club at 1018 Borton St. was hit in the head with a large glass bottle about 2:40 a.m. today.

The 18-year-old was bleeding from the forehead when police arrived, but the suspect had fled. She was treated at West Georgia Medical Center and re-leased.

An aggravated assault warrant was issued against Shantris Smith, 26, of Lafayette Court.

Derailment cause being probed

A spokesman for CSX Transportation said it will take several days for a final determination on the cause of Tuesday morning’s train derailment near the intersection of Roanoke Road and Pyne Road.

Five empty boxcars and an automobile carrier with new Nissans went off the tracks about 9:55 a.m. They struck two other empty boxcars being stored on a side track.

There were no injuries or chemical spills.

Service was restored at 11:30 p.m. Wednesday after the wreckage was cleared and the tracks repaired, said spokesman Gary Sease.
