The unbeaten Kendrick Lady Cherokees used a strong second quarter to get past homestanding LaGrange High 58-44 Friday night in a Region 2-AAA showdown.

The Lady Grangers held a 14-13 after the first quarter, but they were outscored 23-10 in the third as the Lady Cherokees soared to a 36-24 lead.

The two teams played on mostly even terms in the second half, but Kendrick hung on to stay perfect.

The Lady Cherokees moved to 13-0, and they won their region opener.

LaGrange, which opened region play with a dramatic 55-53 win over Shaw on Tuesday, fell to 8-4 overall and 1-1 in the region.

Angel Penn had a big game for LaGrange Friday night with 15 points, while Terryuana Godwin scored eight points.

Deshanti Lewis paced Kendrick with 22 points.

LaGrange will try to get above .500 in the region when it visits Northside Tuesday.

The Lady Grangers are back home Friday night against Columbus.
