The Lafayette Christian basketball team is improving, but the youthful Cougars still lost 62-40 to visiting Flint River Academy Thursday.
The Cougars were within 10 in the third period before the Wildcats pulled away.
The Cougars have had many players out in the last few games due to illness, and head coach Rene Gomez felt their was plenty of improvement in the setback, which dropped the team to 1-7.
“This was one of the better games in the last few weeks,” Gomez said. “We have not had a complete team since Christmas.”
The Cougars have been working on their rebounding, which was much better in Thursday’s loss, according to Gomez.
Jeff Hutcheson pulled down 12 rebounds, and senior Elias Wood had 11 rebounds.
Both players also scored nine and 11 points, respectively.
With tonight’s home game against Cameron Academy, Gomez is hoping the improvement will translate into a win.
“I think we’re headed in the right direction,” Gomez said.
