Five people were accused of taking four fire extinguishers and threatening to throw them through the windows of Great Value Lodge at 2575 Whitesville Road.

Troup County sheriff’s deputies said an employee saw the people sitting in two trucks outside the business and asked what they were doing. The group fled, but not before the employee wrote down the tag of one of the vehicles.

Later, it was found that three fire extinguishers were missing out of their glass containers, with a total value of $480. Officers found the five people, who were charged with theft by taking and criminal trespass.

Gun fired inside residence

A LaGrange man was charged with reckless conduct after getting upset and allegedly firing a pistol into a resident’s wall.

Police said the man walked into a residence in the 800 block of North Greenwood Street and began getting upset. The woman inside said she didn’t know the man well.

He then pulled a small silver pistol out of his jacket and fired it at the wall. Another resident asleep inside woke up, took the pistol away from him, gave it back and told him to leave.

Officers didn’t find the gunman until later when the residents called and said he was back at the house asleep in the back bedroom. Police found him asleep with the gun in his hand, removed it and secured him.

He was charged with reckless conduct and carrying a pistol without a license.
