An inmate at Troup County jail was found with a stabbing weapon in his bed.

Sheriff’s deputies said the man had a toothbrush fashioned into a knife, or “shank.” The inmate was asked if he had anything else and told deputies, “That’s all.”

He was charged with possession of a weapon by an inmate.

Women gets to keep jewelry

A good Samaritan may be allowed to keep some recovered jewelry.

Police said the 92-year-old woman left Traylor’s Pawn and Jewelry and found three rings that didn’t belong to her in her purse.

She went back to the store, where employees said they hadn’t seen the rings before. She was allowed to keep them unless they were reported stolen or missing.

Arrests

— Kavous Tyjuah Respress, 33, of Eufaula, Ala., was charged by Hogansville police with obstruction and trafficking in cocaine.

— Peter Scott Haralson Jr., 17, of Deal Drive was charged with burglary.

— David Blake Thaxton, 19, of Sweetgum Drive was charged with burglary.

— Kelcey Demetris Stephens, 31, of Everette Street was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

— Javarous Ramone Simmons, 20, of Fourth Avenue was charged with three counts of selling marijuana.

— Chad Russell Culver, 25, of Montgomery, Ala., was charged by the Georgia State Patrol with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.

— Michael Jason Nixon, 43, of Habersham Drive was charged with possession of cocaine and a parole violation

— Tony Maxie Butler Jr., 31, of Priscilla Drive was charged with manufacturing methamphetamine, possession of methadone and possession of a schedule IV controlled substance.

— Patrick Eugene Janney, 37, of Drake Road was charged with possession of cocaine.

— Jeremy Thomas Sears, 24, of Phenix City, Ala., was charged by Hogansville police with selling mariujana, driving on a suspended license and having defective tail lights.

Fake money

— A man tried to pay for items in Walmart at 803 New Franklin Road with a fake $100 bill. The man told officers he sold firewood, and customers handed him the money.

— Someone attempted to pass a counterfeit $50 bill in CVS at 201 Greenville St. The customer took the bill back after being confronted by employees and left the store.

Grass fire burns 5 acres

About 5 acres of grass were burned about 4 p.m. Thursday off Whitesville Road. Troup County fire Capt. Early Harris said the blaze’s cause was undetermined. At least two fire trucks were sent to the area.

Thefts, burglaries

— A Honda CRF150F dirt bike valued at $2,000 was stolen from a residence in the 1500 block of Hogansville Road.

— A total $200 and $45 worth of stamps were taken from Mike Patton Ford at 1402 Lafayette Parkway.

— About $100 was taken from a bank bag at Parkway Mitsubishi at 1327 Lafayette Parkway.

— Two men took four caps and lug nuts to a set of rims off a car in the 600 block of Daniel Street.
